The convention for 2009 will be held on August 12-15 at the Milwaukee Hampton Inn and Suites in downtown Milwaukee on Plankinton Ave and Wisconsin Ave.The hotel sits on the edge of the bar district and the best bars in Wisconsin are a short walk down Water Street. The hotel is 2 blocks over from the Amtrak station so anyone wanting to take the train from St Louis or Chicago, can all but walk to the hotel from the Milwaukee Amtrak station. The hotel is less than a mile down the road from Marquette University where we hope to have an opening day of meetings. Likewise, in the opposite direction down the hill towards Lake Michigan is the Milwaukee Art Museum and the festival grounds where the Irish Festival will be going on for the entire weekend of convention. Milwaukee's Irish Festival is one of the premier Irish festivals in all of North America with Irish dance, foods, and events the entire weekend.

The hotel has agreed to reduce the hotel rate to $139 for up to 4 people per room The hotel is on Plankinton Ave and Wisconsin Ave. As you travel up I-94 from Chicago, there is an exit marked right from I-94 to Plankinton Ave. The hotel's parking structure is right on Plankinton Ave. This hotel is easy to find.

The hotel itself is a 'suite' hotel so the rooms are a bit larger. There is a pool inside, free breakfast for up to 4 people every morning and a manager's reception for 2 hours on Tues, Wed and Thurs with free beer for 2 full hours. The hotel is small enough that they are planning on giving us exclusive use of the meeting facilities which means there will be no other groups staying at the hotel. Other guests, yes, other groups, no. The hotel sits across the street from the downtown Grand Avenue Mall with access to the food courts along with other local cheap food joints. Additionally, the Water Street Brewery is a block away with access to local brew. There is a shuttle that runs all week long every 30 minutes to the Milwaukee Potawatomi Bingo and Casino. The airport is 20 minutes max from the hotel. Miller Park (home of the Milwaukee Brewers) is only 20 minutes away. The new Harley Davidson Museum is also downtown as is the lakefront beach. Yes, Milwaukee has a beautiful stretch of Beach along Lake Michigan called Bradford Beach.
One of the most important things about our convention is that although it's in a downtown area, it's patrolled heavily by the Milwaukee police and everyone should feel safe in Milwaukee. It's going to be a great event!
